Our team definitely doesn’t follow the typical rules for a Bren School final presentation. To finish up our stellar typical presentation, Liston and Kevin put their musical skills to use with this ridiculous rap. Michael and I even pitch in at the very end.
We hope you like it!
The County of Santa Barbara Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division won the Solid Waste Association of North America award! Like, the award for the best solid waste system in the US. Pretty amazing to be a part of this team.
The photo is of the Tajiguas Landfill, which is about the cleanest landfill you’ll ever see.
Reece Michaelson did most of the heavy lifting on this award application, I contributed the section on composting. I also helped her out near the end to help with formatting, editing and images. Really happy that it worked out, and even happier that the County of Santa Barbara has a close to 70% recycling rate.
I thought that the County of Santa Barbara’s Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division could use a better logo or seal for their office. There really wasn’t one before.
Because we were applying for a SWANA award, this seemed like the perfect time.
The seal features Tajiguas Landfill, deep in a valley in the Santa Ynez Mountains. Tajiguas is well managed even though it is near the ocean. In fact, it is guarded by a falconer to keep gulls out of the area. So the seal features the falcon flying overhead.
